Launch of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) Pre-Payment Certificate

Launch of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) Pre-Payment Certificate (PPC) Women in England who pay prescription charges and who are prescribed HRT will be able to purchase a new annual pre-payment certificate from 1st April 2023. The HRT PPC will cover HRT medicines that are licensed to treat the menopause in the UK (including if these are prescribed off-label, see here for the full list), and will be valid for 12 months. Patients can use the HRT PPC against an unlimited number of HRT items such as patches, tablets and topical preparations, for the cost of £19.30 (which equates to the cost of two prescription charges from April 2023). Due to the current scope of the HRT PPC, prescribers will need to ensure that HRT items are prescribed on a separate prescription to any other medication, as any non-HRT items will attract a prescription charge and currently systems are not designed to handle mixed charge prescriptions. Prescribers must issue HRT items as single-item prescriptions regardless of whether the patient has an HRT PPC at the time of prescribing. Further information can be found in the following guidance. HRT pre-payment certificates will be available to purchase online from the NHSBSA website
